Data Collection and Usage
To provide a seamless experience and ensure you don't lose your progress, The 20 Minute App synchronizes your settings and streaks securely to the cloud.
Types of Data Collected
- Account Information: When you sign in with Google, we collect basic profile information (name, email address, and profile picture URL) to create your account and personalize your experience.
- App Preferences & Progress: Your configuration settings (e.g., daily time limits, focus shortcuts, sleep hours, custom quotes) and your progress (current and longest streaks) are synced to our secure Firebase Firestore database. This allows you to restore your progress if you change devices.
- Push Notifications: We securely collect a device-specific Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token to send you important alerts and reminders regarding your focus goals.
- Local App Usage Data: Live app usage statistics are retrieved directly from your device's system services. We do not upload your raw, real-time app usage history or browsing history to our servers. We only monitor usage locally on your device to enforce the limits you set.
Third-Party Services
We use trusted Google services to power our backend infrastructure:
- Google Sign-In / Firebase Authentication: For secure login.
- Firebase Firestore: For encrypted database storage of your settings.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging: For delivering notifications.
Permissions
The app requests the following device permissions to function correctly:
- Usage Access: To monitor the time you spend on your selected apps locally.
- Notification Permission: To show persistent monitoring status and push notifications.
- Display over other apps (System Alert Window): To launch our blocker screen ("The Void") over distracting apps when your time limit is reached.
These permissions are used strictly for the core functionality of the app on your device.
